As a child, Mark spent hours in the woods, fully absorbed in made-up worlds of drama and danger with his “adventure people” figures. In high school, he took creative writing classes and acted in the school musicals. When the family got their first video camera, he instinctively started writing and directing short films, casting his reluctant sisters and the occasional parent.
Mark went on to earn his B.A. in Film & Theatre Arts from Cornell University where he continued to study writing, acting and directing for both the screen and the stage. But filmmaking was his true passion and the editing process, with its creative and technical challenges, was the area that inspired him the most.
After a brief, post-college stint as a mostly starving actor in Chicago, Mark moved to Los Angeles and earned his M.F.A. in Film Editing from AFI. Since then, he has edited both comedic and dramatic projects including feature films, scripted and reality television series and documentaries. He is grateful to be doing what he has loved since childhood – creating worlds of make-believe, only now with film and video instead of action figures.
Mark is an Emmy®-nominated editor (“Hot in Cleveland”, link) and a member of the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences as well as the Motion Picture Editors Guild, where he serves on the LGBTQ+ Diversity Steering Committee.
